A driver captured on video driving through a crash scene in Brampton, Ont., and almost hitting a firefighter last month has been charged, Peel police say.

The incident happened on June 27 in the area of Kennedy Road and Sandalwood Parkway.

In the video, which was shared by police, a pickup truck enters the intersection, which is blocked by fire trucks and other emergency vehicles due to a collision, and nearly strikes a firefighter, who scampers out of the way.

The truck then hits a police cruiser.

Police said no one was injured in the incident and the pickup truck driver remained at the scene.

The driver, who police said is an older gentleman, has since been charged with careless driving.

“Surprisingly, he wasn’t drunk and it doesn’t appear he intended to hurt anybody here,” Peel police media relations officer Tyler Bell said in a video posted on social media on Friday.

“This is some pretty scary stuff and it’s inexcusable.”

Bell reminded drivers to pay attention when they encounter a crash scene.
