Peel Regional Police have shared a photo of the suspect vehicle wanted in a hit-and-run in Misssissauga that killed a 38-year-old woman over the weekend.
It happened on Sunday morning, at around 6 a.m., in the area of Erin Mills Parkway and Eglinton Avenue West.
Police said the driver of a white Mercedes sedan was travelling eastbound on Eglinton, at “a high rate of speed,” when they struck a female pedestrian who was in the intersection.
Police pronounced the woman dead at the scene.
Peel police said the driver did not make any attempt to stop, adding that the suspect vehicle likely sustained “extensive” damage to the windshield and front. Investigators are asking local body shops to contact them if a white Mercedes sedan with this kind of damage is brought in for repair.
Speaking to reporters at the scene, Const. Tyler Bell-Morena said police were initially looking for a light-coloured sedan but withdrew that description after learning that vehicle was driven by one of the people who reported the collision.
Bell-Morena said investigators have “substantial” video evidence, adding that it is only “a matter of time” before they identify the suspect.
“There’s absolutely no question that this individual that hit this woman knows that they hit a person and continued,” Bell-Morena said Sunday, before urging the suspect to “lawyer up” and turn themselves in.
Investigators are asking anyone with relevant footage or information to contact them.
