A 23-year-old man wanted in connection with a series of vehicle thefts in Mississauga that targeted residential parking garages has surrendered, Peel police say.

In an update on Saturday, police announced that Gurjeet Singh Virk from Erin, Ont., turned himself in on Thursday and was arrested.

Prior to his surrender, police issued an arrest warrant for his alleged involvement in the thefts and attempted thefts within underground parking garages near Hurontario Street and Burnhamthorpe Road East in May.

Police said several vehicles were stolen while some were damaged as a result.

The thefts prompted police to launch “Project Taillight,” which saw officers execute search warrants at homes in Mississauga and Erin, Ont., resulting in the seizure of cellphones, key fobs, key-programming devices, vehicle-related documents and $1,465 in cash suspected to be crime proceeds.

Earlier this week, police announced that one suspect named Prince, 21 years old from Mississauga, was arrested and charged with 21 theft offences and one count of breach of a release order.

In Saturday’s update, police said Singh Virk is facing the same charges as Prince.

“The investigation remains ongoing. Evidence seized during the search warrants continues to be analyzed, and investigators are pursuing additional leads to identify any other individuals involved,” police said.
