Police are searching for Shemii Whittaker and Shemel Whittaker, both 17, of Brampton, who are wanted on first-degree murder charges in connection with a July 5 shooting.

Two 17-year-old brothers are wanted by police on first-degree murder charges following a deadly shooting in Brampton earlier this month.

On July 5, Peel Regional Police officers were called to a residential area near Edenbrook Hill Drive and Earlsbridge Boulevard shortly after 3:30 p.m. following reports of a shooting.

When officers arrived, they located a man in his 20s suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police have not released the identity of the victim.

At the time, police said the victim and suspects were believed to have been involved in an altercation prior to the shooting. Investigators said it was unclear whether the two parties knew each other before the incident.

On Friday, police identified the suspects as 17-year-old brothers Shemii Whittaker and Shemel Whittaker of Brampton. Both are now wanted on charges of first-degree murder.

“The suspects should be considered armed and dangerous. If seen, members of the public are urged not to approach them and to call 911 immediately,” police said in a news release.

“Investigators are also urging both suspects to seek legal counsel and surrender to police.”

Peel Regional Police said they obtained a court order allowing them to identify and publish photos of the two suspects until 5 p.m. on July 22, or until they are taken into custody.

The charges have not been proven in court.
