Peel regional police have charged a 24-year-old man in connection with a fatal shooting in Brampton last month, while they continue to search for two additional suspects.
In a news release, officials say officers first responded to reports of a shooting at around 7 p.m. on June 4 in the area of Sandalwood Parkway and Crown Victoria Drive.
When officers arrived, they say they found a man suffering from “multiple gunshot wounds.” The victim, identified as 25-year-old Jamal Edwards, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following what police describe as a “comprehensive” investigation, 24-year-old Bakiram Balakumar, of Scarborough, was arrested earlier this week on July 21 and charged with first-degree murder.
None of the charges have been tested in court but police say he was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Investigators say two additional suspects were captured on video and remain outstanding.

“Police are looking for assistance or information to identify them. They should be considered armed and dangerous,” officials wrote.
Anyone with information about the homicide, including the identities or whereabouts of the outstanding suspects, is asked to come forward and contact Peel police’s Homicide Bureau 905-453-2121, ext. 3205.
