One person is dead and three others are in custody following an officer-involved shooting in Mississauga, officials confirm.
In a post on social media, Peel police said Toronto police were conducting an investigation in the area of Council Ring Road and The Collegeway when an officer-involved shooting occurred shortly before 12:30 a.m.
Police said one male suffered life-threatening injuries and another was taken to hospital with minor injuries. In an email to CP24, the Special Investigations Unit, which has invoked its mandate, confirmed that the shooting is now fatal.
Police said one officer also suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash.
There is a heavy police presence in the area and the scene is expected to remain closed for several hours.
The SIU is expected to provide an update at the scene at 9:30 a.m.
