A commercial motor vehicle inspection conducted by the Ontario Provincial Police on Highway 11 in Callander over the weekend has resulted in charges against two individuals and a British Columbia business.
Police said the inspection on Aug. 23 uncovered numerous safety, licensing, equipment, load securement and cannabis-related violations.
Multiple charges laid
“Two individuals and a British Columbia business were charged with multiple offences,” OPP said in a social media post.
According to an OPP news release received Wednesday morning, dated Aug. 25, a 24-year-old man from Mississauga faces 14 charges as a result of the inspection.
He is charged with operating a vehicle without displaying an inspection sticker, operating with an insecure load, using an improper means of attachment, operating with defective brakes, failing to stop for examination, overweight on tires, overweight vehicle in violation of a permit, failing to surrender a daily log, driving without an electronic logging device, failing to complete a daily inspection report, operating an unsafe combination of vehicles, driving with an improper licence and two G1 licence violations related to carrying a front-seat passenger and being unaccompanied by a qualified driver.
Additionally, a 31-year-old man from Edmonton, Alta., was charged with driving a vehicle with cannabis readily available and driving a vehicle with open cannabis.
A B.C. business was also charged in the incident. The company is charged with eight offences, including operating a vehicle without displaying an inspection sticker, operating a vehicle with an insecure load, operating a vehicle with defective brakes, overweight vehicle in violation of a permit, permitting a person to drive a commercial motor vehicle not in accordance with regulations, failing to equip a vehicle with an electronic logging device, failing to ensure daily inspections were conducted properly and permitting a person with an improper licence to drive a commercial vehicle.
Police added that the vehicle and trailer plates were seized and taken out of service as a result of the inspection.
