Two people have been arrested after a violent home invasion in Brampton left two residents with gunshot wounds, Peel police say.
In a news release, officials say the incident happened around 4:30 a.m. on June 14 at a home near McLaughlin Road and Steeles Avenue West.
“Five occupants were asleep inside a residence... when three suspects forcibly entered the home through a rear glass door,” officials wrote.
Police added that a fourth suspect allegedly remained in a nearby vehicle while a “confrontation occurred” inside the residence.
Surveillance video released by police appears to show three masked men approach the home, before one of them, wearing a tracksuit kicks down the door to gain entry.
As a result, two residents were shot during the incident.
Both were taken to hospital for treatment and have since been released. They continue to recover from their injuries, police said.
Investigators say they then arrested two people on July 15.
Javaunie Thomas, an 18-year-old Toronto man, and a 16-year-old young person from Toronto have each been charged with attempted murder using a firearm, aggravated assault, and robbery, among several others.
The identity of the 16-year-old accused cannot be released under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
None of the charges have been tested in court but police say both were held for bail hearings and remain in custody.
The investigation is ongoing as officials say two other suspects remain outstanding.
One is described as a male with a dark complexion, about six feet tall with a heavy build. Police say he was armed with a handgun.
The second outstanding suspect was the alleged getaway driver. However, no description was provided.
In a statement, Peel Police Chief Nishan Duraiappah said “violent home invasions have a profound impact on victims, their families and entire communities.”
“When individuals are targeted in their own homes, it undermines the sense of safety and security that every resident deserves to feel,” he added. “We will continue to pursue every person involved until they are identified, arrested and brought to justice.”
