A 42-year-old woman has been arrested and charged after a man was stabbed outside a shelter in Mississauga over the weekend.
Peel Regional Police say the stabbing happened Sunday at about 5:30 p.m. in the area of Main Street and Dundas Street East, east of Dixie Road.
When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from a serious stab wound to the neck. Paramedics told CP24 they performed life-saving measures before the man was taken to hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Initially, police say they arrested a man who was involved in a altercation with the victim. He has since been released.
“As the investigation progressed, officers determined that he was not responsible for the stabbing and he was subsequently released,” police said in a statement.
Police then identified 42-year-old Lorena Sanchez of Mississauga as a suspect, who allegedly fled the area prior to police arrival.
On Monday, police arrested and charged Sanchez with one count of attempted murder.
The charge has not been proven in court.
