Shammar Osbourne stood in the prisoner’s box inside a Collingwood courtroom Tuesday afternoon accused of drug possession and trafficking charges, while his lawyer failed to appear to address the matter. Osbourne is accused by police in Peel Region of first-degree murder in a shooting more than three-and-a-half years ago that killed a 29-year-old man outside a home in Mississauga.

It was in late June when Peel Regional police announced that a woman and three men, including Osbourne, were charged in connection with the deadly shooting o Bryan Lara-Alvarez in March 2023. Investigators revealed Lara-Alvarez was found suffering from gunshot wounds and succumbed to his injuries at the home in Mississauga where an SUV was seen fleeing following the shooting.

Police charged Osbourne and 22-year-old Shamba Tull from Toronto with murder and two others with gun counts. Peel police said search and arrest warrants led to a firearm being seized.

Osbourne was previously arrested on May 10 when provincial police in Springwater Township charged Osbourne and a 24-year-old man from Ajax with several drug counts following a crash along Luella Boulevard in Anten Mills at 11:30 p.m. When officers arrived on scene, they said drugs including suspected opioids and cocaine were found. Police revealed the two accused were arrested on scene.
A month later Osbourne and his three co-accused were charged in the three-year old homicide investigation.
Osbourne is scheduled to return to virtual courtrooms in Barrie and Brampton next week. The allegations against him have not been tested in court.
