A 56-year-old Mississauga man is facing criminal charges in connection with a July crash on Highway 401 that left a Cambridge father and daughter dead.

Ontario Provincial Police say emergency crews responded to a two-vehicle rear-end collision on the highway near Dixie Road, on July 15, around 8:50 a.m.

Investigators say four family members were inside the struck vehicle. An 80-year-old man and his 53-year-old daughter were pronounced dead at the scene. Two other family members were taken to hospital, one with serious injuries and the other with non-life-threatening injuries.

The sole occupant of the second vehicle was also taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver has been charged with two counts of dangerous operation causing death and one count of dangerous operation causing bodily harm.

The accused was held for a bail hearing last month and was released from custody. A court appearance is scheduled in January, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.
