The northern portion of the Greater Toronto Area, including Newmarket and Georgina, could see up to 10 centimetres of snow on Monday with lower snowfall totals throughout the rest of the city.
Environment Canada has issued a winter weather travel advisory for Northern York region.
It says that the area could see 10 centimetres of snow throughout the day, creating the possibility of hazardous travel conditions with reduced visibility.
Environment Canada says that there will also be a risk of freezing drizzle before it starts snowing.
“Travel may be hazardous due to sudden changes in the weather,” the weather advisory says. “Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.”
While some northern portions of the GTA will see more snow, CP24 Meteorologist Bill Coulter says that there will only be “light” snowfall in Toronto, beginning midafternoon and ending by this evening.
The city will see a high of 3 C on Monday with a wind chill that makes it feel closer to -7 throughout the day, Environment Canada says.
Temperatures are expected to dip to a low of -6 C overnight.
In a post on X, Toronto Pearson International Airport said that it is expecting a “mixed bag” of weather but no major impacts on operations.
It’s going to be a mixed bag of weather today with rain, mist, freezing drizzle and snow all in the forecast. Overall, we’re anticipating just under 2 cm of snow – which shouldn’t have any major impacts on operations.
