Man dead, another seriously injured in Etobicoke apartment shooting

Toronto police provide an update on a double shooting at an apartment building in Etobicoke that left man dead and another with serious injuries.

A man is dead and another is in hospital following a shooting at an apartment building in Etobicoke Tuesday.

Toronto police said they received a call for a shooting on 7 Capri Road, in the area of The East Mall and Rathburn Road, just before 5:30 p.m.

When officers arrived, they found two male victims, possibly in their late teens or early 20s, suffering from gunshot wounds in the building.

Duty Insp. Phillip Sinclair said officers commenced life-saving measures on the victims until paramedics arrived.

The victims were rushed to a trauma centre—one in critical condition and the other with serious, possibly life-threatening injuries, Toronto paramedics told CTV News Toronto.

Police later said that one victim died of his injuries. The homicide unit is now investigating.

“At this time, we do understand this is a very concerning incident for the residents of the building, those affected, and the rest of the community in the area,” Sinclair said.

“We do want to ensure the public at this time that we’re putting all the necessary resources in place to help to identify those responsible to solve this homicide.”

Sinclair told reporters at the scene that the shooting involved several floors.

When asked if there was an altercation that led to the incident, the inspector said, “I can’t say if there was a fight or not, but everything’s been investigated to figure out what led up to this incident and what occurred.”

Sinclair would not say if the victims resided in the building.

Meanwhile, officers were searching for two suspects wearing masks who fled the scene. Police have not provided further descriptions.

“The last information we have is that they exited the building, but we do not have any direction of travel at this time,” Sinclair said.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact homicide investigators at 416-807-7400 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
