A man who allegedly repeatedly stabbed a girl with an “edged weapon” and assaulted a woman in Scarborough nearly seven years ago has recently been arrested in Guyana.
The incident happened on the evening of Nov. 23, 2018, police say, in the area of McCowan Road and Eglinton Avenue East.
Toronto police say the accused entered the victim’s home, assaulted a woman, stabbed a female youth “numerous times” and then fled the scene. They added that the victim and accused knew each other, but did not confirm what their relationship was.
Police identified the accused as Toronto resident Harry Rajkumar.
At the time of the offence, police say they conducted an extensive search to locate the now 46-year-old but were unsuccessful.
On Dec. 20, 2024, police say Rajkumar was found in Guyana. It is unclear how long Rajkumar had been there.
He was then arrested and detained in the South American country while arrangements were made to take him back to Canada.
On Thursday, police arrested Rajkumar and charged him with numerous offences, including attempted murder, and two counts each of aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and fail to comply recognizance. The charges have not been tested in court.
Police are asking anyone with additional information to contact them at 416-808-4300 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
