Toronto police say charges have been laid in connection with an alleged hit-and-run left a 71-year-old pedestrian dead last November.

The incident occurred in the area of Kennedy Road and McNicoll Avenue at around 11:50 p.m. on Nov. 21.

Police said the driver of a Cadillac Escalade was heading west on McNicoll Avenue when they turned left onto southbound Kennedy Road and struck the pedestrian, who was crossing at a crosswalk in the area.

The driver, police allege, fled the scene of the collision.

The pedestrian was taken to hospital but was subsequently pronounced dead.

In a news release issued Friday, police said 45-year-old Meng Qian was arrested on Feb. 13 in connection with the incident.

He is facing several charges, including dangerous operation of a conveyance causing death, failing to stop at the scene, and careless driving causing death.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
