Toronto police say a man was seriously injured after confronting two suspects who were attempting to steal a car from the driveway of a west-end home.
It happened near Dufferin Street and Rogers Road at around 3:30 a.m.
According to police, two males were reportedly attempting to steal a vehicle from the driveway of a home in the area when they were confronted by a man. The man, police said, was subsequently hit with a hard object and the suspects fled without taking the vehicle they were attempting to steal.
Police previously said the man was stabbed during the altercation but corrected that information later on Tuesday morning, saying instead that he was struck.
The man’s injuries, police said, are not life-threatening.
Speaking to CTV News Toronto, the son of the man who was injured said he was “in shock” when he saw what had transpired outside his home on Tuesday morning.
“I hear my mom yelling, my dog barking. So I rush out the door, notice what was happening. I was in shock. I see my dad just laying on the floor on one knee and I just couldn’t believe that,” he said.
“I was just thinking to myself is this really happening, like really, to us,” he said.
He said he immediately began chasing the suspects following the attack on his father.
“I wasn’t thinking,” he added. “I wanted to protect my parents.”
The suspects fled in a Honda CRV, he noted.
Investigators have not released any information on possible suspects.
