York Memorial Collegiate Institute has been closed for the day after being evacuated due to a possible gas leak, Toronto police say.
Crews were called for reports of a possible gas leak at the public high school, located near Keele Street and Rogers Road, shortly before 9 a.m., police say.
The building was evacuated and about 45 minutes later, police said the school would be closed for the day as the potential leak is investigated.
The Toronto District School Board said in a post on X that the evacuation was a “precautionary measure” and that classes have transitioned to virtual learning.
Toronto Fire crews are on scene to look into the possible leak.
No injuries have been reported, police said.
