Amid a sea of silent Dodger fans, Davis Schneider’s dad could not contain his excitement watching his son slam one out of the park on the first pitch of Game 5 of the World Series in Los Angeles.
“No way! Oh my God,” Schneider’s dad could be heard screaming in a viral reaction video circulating on social media.
Filling in for an injured George Springer, leadoff hitter Schneider hit a solo home run off of Dodgers starter Blake Snell in the first pitch of the night.
Two pitches later, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. would do the very same thing, putting the Blue Jays up 2-0 just minutes into the game.
Their efforts marked the first time in World Series history that a game has ever opened with back-to-back homers.
Schneider’s father could be seen high-fiving fellow Blue Jays fans inside Dodgers Stadium, shouting in disbelief about what he had just witnessed.
“You’ve got to be kidding me,” he yelled in a video apparently captured by his Meta glasses.
The Blue Jays left-fielder spoke briefly about his dad’s viral moment during a post-game news conference.
“His Meta glasses are a little bit, they are kinda dumb,” Schneider laughed. “I don’t know why he wears them all the time.”
He went on to say how “grateful” he is to have his family at the games.
“It is great to have my family out here and get the experience of the World Series,” he said.
“It is the first time being here. We’re from a small town in New Jersey. They deserve it just as much as me.”
Schneider’s homer also marked the first time the Blue Jays have scored first against the Dodgers this series.
The Jays are now up three games to two in the Fall Classic after defeating Los Angeles 6-1 on Wednesday night. The series comes back to Toronto for Game 6 on Friday night.
