Prime Minister Mark Carney reacted to the Toronto Blue Jays’ World Series loss in Game 7, calling the result “absolutely” heartbreaking.
“Congratulations to the Blue Jays for a tremendous season and for battling right to the end,” he wrote in a post on X early Sunday morning following the game that went to the 11th inning.
“You’ve made all of (Canada) proud with how hard you fought, the risks you took, and the teamwork you lived throughout. An inspiration to us all pointing to an ever brighter future for all of us in the years ahead.”
Toronto was two outs away from their first World Series title in 32 years Saturday night when the Los Angeles Dodgers hit a game-tying home run and came out on top 5-4.
Carney spoke about the Jays before returning home from his first official visit to Asia for the APEC summit. He sang the praises of the underdog team and said “you don’t need the big payroll” to win the World Series, referring to the Dodgers’ most-expensive roster in the league.
“You don’t need to be the big American team to win the World Series,” he said. “Our Canada is taking risks and we are a team (and) we are Canada strong.”
Absolutely 💔 result.
