A couple and their one-year-old daughter got lost while hiking at Rouge National Urban Park over the weekend and had to be rescued, which was captured on video.
On Friday, Toronto police released of the rescue footage taken from a helicopter.
The Air Support Unit was called to assist officers who were searching for the family of three that became disoriented in dense bush during a hike near a stream.
Police said the unit first deployed a “Remotely Piloted Aircraft System” (RPAS) in the area of Steeles Avenue East and Reesor Road.
The family was advised to use “What3Words,” an app that makes it easier for emergency responders to pinpoint their exact location, police said.
As a result, the RPAS found them in a thick brush.
“Air Support officers first tried to guide the family out using verbal directions, but the rugged terrain made it unsafe for them to navigate alone with a small child,” police said.
“42 Division uniform officers then entered the extremely dense vegetation to help with the rescue.”
Police said using the Ontario Provincial Police’s helicopter and with the RPAS, uniform officers were able to reach the family and guide them out of the park without further incident.
Police said no injuries were reported.
