Beatrice Vaisman has the latest from Bloor Street West and Runnymede Road in Toronto's west end, where a man was stabbed on Monday afternoon.

One patient has been rushed to the hospital following a stabbing in Toronto’s Bloor West Village neighbourhood on Monday afternoon, say paramedics.

The incident happened near a parkette behind the Toronto Public Library’s Runnymede branch, at Bloor Street West and Glendonwynne Road. Toronto police noted that the incident does not appear to be connected to the library, not did a dispute occur inside that building.

Emergency responders said they were called to that area just before 2:45 p.m. for reports of a stabbing.

Toronto police said officers at the scene located a man who had been stabbed. They are describing his injuries as non-life-threatening.

Investigators say a suspect, a man in his 40s, fled the area before officers arrived but was located and arrested nearby. The name of the suspect and what charges he may be facing have not been released.

Toronto paramedics said they transported one patient to a “lead trauma centre” in serious, but non-life-threatening condition.

“I walked by the area and there was a ruckus, and that’s all I know. I heard later that somebody got stabbed,” he told CP24’s Beatrice Vaisman late Monday afternoon.

Sciverras said he saw what appeared to be about a dozen police cruisers as well as two fire trucks and a couple of ambulances in tha area following the stabbing, adding that incidents like these seem to be happening throughout the city.

He said in this case this location is in close proximity to the subway station and easy for people to access.
