Two subway stations on Line 1 will officially go by new names starting Sunday, the TTC says.
Starting on Dec. 7, Eglinton West Station will be known as Cedarvale Station, while Dundas Station will be called TMU Station in reference to nearby Toronto Metropolitan University.
“The renaming of these two stations reflects closer ties to the communities in which the stations are located, and in the case of TMU Station, it is a result of a partnership that will provide the TTC with access to world-class research on transit,” TTC Chair Jamaal Myers said in a written statement released Tuesday.
The TTC said the board inked a new partnership with the university, which includes the creation of the Transit Innovation Yard, a hub for “testing and developing advanced transit solutions.”
“The pilot project will explore initiatives such as route optimization, enhanced real-time service updates, and improved journey-planning tools, reinforcing Toronto’s position as a leader in transit innovation,” the TTC said in a news release.
Back in 2015, the TTC board approved the renaming of Cedarvale Station, which will connect to the Eglinton Crosstown.
“While Metrolinx has not yet announced an opening date for Line 5, customers can already use the pedestrian underpass at Cedarvale to connect directly to Line 1,” the news release continued.
Customers will notice updated signage at both stations, revised subway maps, and the new names will be announced on board trains upon arrival at the stations.
“Over the past few weeks, the TTC has been updating signage, maps and other TTC wayfinding information across the system to reflect the new names,” the news release read.
