Apartment fire in North York sends 1 person to hospital

A woman sustained life-threatening injuries after an apartment fire in North York on Thursday evening. Fire crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire.

One person has been seriously injured in an apartment fire in North York, police say.

Crews responded to a building in the area of Lawrence Avenue West and Keele Street around 5:17 p.m.

When they arrived, crews found the fire in an upper-floor unit, Toronto Fire said. Firefighters located a female victim outside the unit suffering injuries.

According to Toronto police, the victim was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. Toronto paramedics told CP24 the victim’s injuries were life-threatening.

The fire has since been knocked down.

The cause, origin and circumstances of the fire are unknown but police said it is not being treated as suspicious at this time.
