27-year-old man dead, 2 others hospitalized after Peterborough house fire

Police say one person is dead and two others are in hospital following a house fire in Peterborough early Wednesday morning.

Emergency crews were called to a residential fire in the area of McDonnel Street and Park Street North at 3:30 a.m., according to a news release.

When they arrived, they found a 27-year-old man inside the residence. He was transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead. He has not been identified.

Two others were taken to hospital for treatment. The extent of their injuries is unclear.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway by Peterborough police as well as the Ontario Fire Marshal.
