Man in life-threatening condition after being hit by truck in downtown Toronto

A police tape is around a truck involved in an incident in downtown Toronto on Jan. 23, 2026.

A man is in life-threatening condition after being hit by a truck in downtown Toronto on Friday night.

The incident happened near Gould Street, east of Yonge Street, shortly after 6:30 p.m.

Police say a 38-year-old man was walking at the back of a business when he was hit by a truck reversing into a loading dock.

The man was reportedly pinned by the truck and had to be extricated.

Police say the man was transported to the hospital with critical injuries.

The driver of the truck, a 70-year-old man, remained at the scene, police say.

The circumstances surrounding the incident are not immediately known.
