Many schools and daycares are closed in the GTHA on Monday and several recreation centres will open late due to a massive winter storm that hammered the region on Sunday.
Here is a look at storm-related closures and cancellations across the GTHA.
Toronto
- All Toronto District School Board schools, sites and administrative buildings, including child care centres, will be closed to students and most staff.
- Secondary exams scheduled for Monday will be postponed to another day this week.
- The Toronto Catholic District School Board is closing all schools and board sites on Monday. Child care centres, before-and after-school programs, and permits are also cancelled.
- Toronto Metropolitan University and York University have suspended classes on Monday due to the weather.
- The University of Toronto’s St. George Campus will be closed until noon on Monday but the Scarborough and Mississauga locations will remain closed for the day.
- Colleges, including George Brown, Centennial, and Humber, are closed Monday.
- All Seneca campuses will remain open but in-person day classes will move online today, where possible.
- The Toronto Zoo is closed due to the winter storm
- The City of Toronto says some municipal services will be impacted by the storm. On Monday, registry service counters at City Hall and North York Civic Centre will be open for urgent appointments only. City staff also noted that 311 phone lines will remain open, but in-person service counters will be closed.
- City of Toronto recreation centres and city-run daycares will open at 9 a.m. City-run daycares operating within TDSB schools will be closed.

Peel Region
- All Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board schools and offices/facilities are closed to students and staff on Monday due to winter weather conditions.
- Peel District School Board is closing all schools and worksites on Monday. All activities located in the schools, including childcare, night school and permits are also cancelled.
- The City of Mississauga says libraries, community centres, arenas, city hall, and the provincial courthouse, will open at noon on Monday.
Hamilton
- Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board is closing all schools, administrative buildings, and workplaces, including the Education Centre, tomorrow.
- In a post on social media, the city said recreation centres, senior centres, and arenas will open at 9 a.m. on Monday. Visit the city’s website for more details on cancellations and updates.
York Region
- York Catholic District School Board is closing all of its schools on Monday.
- Secondary students with exams on Monday will have them rescheduled to Thursday. Tuesday and Wednesday’s exams will proceed as originally scheduled.
- York Region District School Board announced that all schools and board locations are closed to students tomorrow.
Durham Region
- All Durham District School Board and the Durham Catholic District School Board school sites are closed on Monday.
Halton Region
- Halton District and Halton Catholic District School Board (HCDSB) schools and administrative centers will be closed, and transportation services are cancelled in Zones 1, 2 & 3 for Jan. 26, 2026.
Niagara Region
- The District School Board of Niagara (DSBN) and Niagara Catholic District School Board is closing all schools/offices on Monday and bus service.
- Niagara Children’s Centre School Authority is also closing its school and cancelling buses on Monday.
