The Toronto Zoo has reunited members of a caribou herd after bringing in two animals from a Peterborough zoo.

Margaret and Marley, two eight-year-old female caribou, have joined the Toronto Zoo’s herd of four female caribou, the zoo announced Monday. All six originally came from the same herd, the zoo said, making for a “meaningful reunion.”. Margaret and Marley reside in the zoo’s Tundra Trek habitat.

“Caribou are highly social animals that thrive in larger groups,” the zoo said. Caribou herds usually include thousands of animals, and occasionally reach into the hundreds of thousands.

The Toronto Zoo thanked Peterborough’s Riverview Park and Zoo for “their collaboration in ensuring the well-being of the caribou in our collective care, and we’re proud to continue working together to advance caribou conservation.”
