Fire crews are on the scene of a gas leak at Sheppard Public School and Africentric Alternative in North York.

A North York school has been evacuated as a result of a possible “ventilation issue,” police say.

Toronto police and Toronto Fire were initially called to Sheppard Public School, which also houses Africentric Alternative, located on Sheppard Avenue West, for a reported gas leak.

The call came in just after 2 p.m.

There are no reports of injuries. Students are being loaded into shelter buses that were dispatched to the scene.

In a subsequent update, police said Toronto Fire advised them that it was not a gas leak but a possible “ventilation issue.”

The cause and origin of the issue are not immediately known.

By 4 pm, police reported that school had been let out for the day and students were being picked up by their parents and guardians.
