Those getting round Toronto this weekend will want to be aware of two big highway closures, as well as a significant subway closure downtown.
Stretches of the Don Valley Parkway and Gardiner Expressway will be closed this weekend in order to allow for construction related to the Ontario Line.
The city says the closure will allow construction crews to move the eastern section of the new Lower Don Bridge over the DVP to its permanent location as part of construction on the line.
The closures will be in effect from 11 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 30 until 5 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 2.
DVP
The southbound DVP will be closed from Bayview Avenue to the Gardiner Expressway. The southbound DVP on-ramp from Bayview Avenue will also be closed.
The northbound DVP on-ramp at Don Roadway will be closed.
Gardiner Expressway
The westbound lanes of the Gardiner Expressway will be closed from the DVP to Lower Jarvis Street. The westbound Lower Jarvis Street on-ramp will remain open.
The eastbound lanes of the Gardiner Expressway will be closed from Bay Street to the DVP, continuing northbound until Eastern Avenue.
The eastbound on-ramps at Rees and Bay Streets will also be closed.
Line 1 subway closure
There will also be a subway closure downtown all weekend for those getting around on transit.
The TTC says there will be no subway service on Line 1 between St George and St Andrew stations from 11 p.m. on Friday, January 30 through Saturday and Sunday for planned station work. Regular service will resume on Monday morning.
Shuttle buses will not be operating to replace regular service, the TTC says. Instead, the agency is advising people to use east-west routes to transfer to the Yonge side of Line 1 to continue north or south.
