Torontonians looking for relief from the brutally cold conditions will likely have to hold out for Family Day weekend, CP24 Meteorologist Bill Coulter says.
“February seems poised to carry on with January’s cold and snowy story,” Coulter said Tuesday.
Environment Canada is calling for a high of -5 C on Wednesday, feeling closer to -20 in the morning and -7 in the afternoon.
Thursday is expected to see a high of -4 C, about two degrees colder than the average for this time of year.
On Friday, Torontonians could see a high above the freezing mark for the first time in nearly a month. The national weather agency said at its warmest point on Friday, Toronto will hit 1 C.
“An Alberta Clipper will bring three to five centimetres of snow or mix on Friday, followed by a steep drop in temperatures for Friday night,” Coulter said.
The frigid conditions are expected to stick around all weekend, with daytime highs of -10 C and -8 C on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
“There is some hope on the horizon for more comfortable days ahead. Just don’t pack away the parkas quite yet,” Coulter said.
“If you’re hoping to shed layers, set your sights on Family Day weekend. Until then, any relief will be short-lived.”
Coulter said a “slow moderation of temperature” will come next week and “warmer and wetter weather” will arrive for the long weekend.
