Metrolinx is warning of more delays on GO Transit on Tuesday as crews work to restore service following a train derailment on Monday.
On Tuesday morning, the provincial transit agency confirmed that the derailed train has now been removed but GO Transit will still be operating on a modified schedule.
“Additional work is underway on that portion of the track,” a spokesperson for Metrolinx said in a statement to CP24.
The derailment occurred near Union Station on Monday morning, snarling both the morning and afternoon commute for riders across the GTA.
Metrolinx says the following service changes will be in place on Tuesday morning:
- Lakeshore East: 60-minute service, outside of 15–30-minute peak a.m. and p.m. service.
- Lakeshore West: 60-minute service, outside of 15–30-minute peak a.m. and p.m. service
- UP Express: operating on 30-minute service
- Kitchener: 60-minute service, outside of 30-minute peak a.m. and p.m. service.
- Milton: 30-minute a.m. and p.m. peak service
- Richmond Hill: 60-minute a.m. and p.m. peak service
- Stouffville: 30-minute a.m. and p.m. peak service
- Barrie: 30-minute a.m. and p.m. service

TTC boosts service
The TTC said in light of the GO Transit disruptions, it is supporting customers with extra service during the morning and afternoon rush hours.
“For GO customers who normally only travel between Union and Exhibition stations, we’ll be supplementing regular 509 Harbourfront streetcar service with additional express buses, running direct between Exhibition Place loop and Union Station,” the TTC said.
“For GO/UP Express customers who normally travel between Union and Bloor GO/Dundas West, buses will run in addition to streetcars on the 505 Dundas route, connecting to our Dundas West Station.”
Many transit riders who spoke to CP24 said they experienced a much smoother commute on Tuesday, with minimal or no disruptions.
But some said they still experienced delays of up to an hour on Tuesday morning.
“My initial train was cancelled and then (I) got a delayed train that was about 15 minutes late and then was more delayed as we had stops,” one woman told CP24 at Union Station on Tuesday. “It was a bit of a nightmare.”
Another man said his train was 45 delayed by 45 minutes, making him late for work.
