An elderly woman has died in hospital following a house fire in Newmarket early Friday morning.

The fire broke out at a home on Kirby Crescent at around 6:30 a.m., York Regional Police say.

One woman was removed from the home and was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition, police previously said. She later died from her injuries.

Two men were also transported to hospital with minor injuries, according to police.

The Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM) has been called in to investigate the cause of the deadly blaze.

York Regional Police say officers will remain at the scene until the OFM completes its investigation.

“The investigation remains with Central York Fire Services as there is no suspicion of criminality,” police said in a post on social media.
