Traffic is now improving on the Gardiner Expressway after two water main breaks heavily slowed down the morning commute. CP24's Steve Ryan has more on the crews

Closures remain in effect along the Gardiner Expressway on Tuesday following a water main break that snarled rush hour traffic on Monday morning.

One westbound lane remains closed near Park Lawn Road and the ramp from Park Lawn to the westbound Gardiner is also closed.

According to the City of Toronto, the break was isolated on Monday and the flooding has stopped.

“City of Toronto emergency crews have been responding to a watermain break that occurred yesterday morning on the Gardiner Expressway near Grand Avenue, resulting in some localized flooding and lane reductions. The cause of the break was found to be a leak in one of the original connection joints,” a statement from a City spokesperson said.

“Crews are working to expedite the work, a timeline for completion will be confirmed when more information is available.”

All eastbound lanes are open and three lanes on the westbound Gardiner are also open near Park Lawn Road.

“Motorists travelling westbound are advised to allow extra travel time,” the statement continued.

“The City thanks the public for their patience and cooperation as crews work to resolve the situation as quickly and safely as possible.”
