The TTC says it could take a couple of days to fix an issue that has brought the 510 Spadina streetcar network to a standstill.
According to the TTC, crews identified an issue with the underground power supply and the repair could take some time to complete.
TTC spokesperson Stuart Green said crews first learned of a possible fire in an underground power vault in the area of Spadina Avenue and Adelaide Street on Monday.
He said they found “significant damage” in the underground vault.
“Crews have been in there all night,” he said.
“There is 600 metres of cable that has to be replaced in the series of vaults that are underground.”
In the meantime, the TTC is running 17 shuttle buses to supplement streetcar service.
“We are looking at Friday to sort of get the streetcar service back,” he said.
He advised customers that buses will not be stopping at streetcar platforms but at the curb instead.
“If customers are going to Union Station and they would normally take that 510 streetcar all the way to Union, it might be better for them to use Dundas, College, Queen, King, get across to Line 1, and then go down to Union Station that way,” Green said.
