Hamilton police have arrested a man allegedly connected to a stabbing incident earlier this year.

On Friday, Jan. 2, law enforcement responded to a report of a stabbing at the Red Rose Motel, where an adult woman was found with serious injuries. She was taken to the hospital and has since survived.

After the Homicide Unit took over the investigation, a suspect was identified and a Canada-wide warrant was issued when he couldn’t immediately be found.

On March 2, the accused was found and arrested without incident in the Greater Toronto Area.

Joel Benjamin, 34, faces charges of attempted murder and possession for the purpose of trafficking.

During the arrest, investigators also found suspected controlled substances, including a sizable amount of suspected fentanyl. A 36-year-old Toronto man, who authorities didn’t name, was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking and proceeds of crime over $5,000.

Approximately $30,000 in gold bars were also seized.
