Toronto police are searching for an 18-year-old woman who allegedly set up a “fake date” to facilitate an attempted kidnapping last summer in the city’s west end.
In a release on Monday, police said officers responded to a call for a robbery near St. Clair Avenue West and Christie Street shortly after midnight.
It is alleged that a female suspect lured an adult victim to that area after setting up a pretend date. When the victim arrived, they were ambushed by a group of males and forced into a vehicle, said police.
Investigators said the victim was driven around for several hours while demands were made for money and they were assaulted.
Police located the victim a few hours later. They said they sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Ashley Crenshaw, 18, of Hamilton, is wanted for one count each of kidnapping, kidnapping for ransom or service, and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence as well as two counts of forcible confinement.
Crenshaw is described as having brown curly hair and a medium build.
This investigation is ongoing and anyone with further information is asked to contact Toronto police at 416-808-2637 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
