A man is facing charges after allegedly driving a stolen snow plow into the emergency department at downtown Toronto’s SickKids Hospital on Monday.
Toronto police said they were called to the area of Elizabeth Street and Gerrard Street West just after 12:20 p.m. for reports of a collision.
Investigators say a man entered an unattended a utility task vehicle equipped with a snow plow and drove it through the entrance of a hospital emergency department.
Toronto police have not said how long the vehicle was left unattended but noted the suspect drove it “a short distance.”
The driver was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, they said.
There are no other reported injuries and police have confirmed to CP24 that the collision is not impacting hospital operations, as another set of doors are being used at this time.
The suspect has now been identified by police as 37-year-old Norman Gayvan Lane, of no fixed address.
He has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, property damage endangering life, and mischief to property exceeding $5,000. The charges have not been tested in court.
Lane is scheduled to appear in bail court on Tuesday morning.
