A 17-year-old G2 driver is facing charges after they were clocked at more than 200 kilometres an hour in Niagara Region – and two passengers were later found in their trunk.

Police say that officers initiated a traffic stop after observing the vehicle travelling at 202 km/h in a posted 110 km/h zone on Hwy. 406 near Hwy. 20 on Sunday night.

The authorities say that the vehicle initially appeared to contain four passengers.

However, two additional passengers were located in the trunk as police prepared to tow the vehicle from the scene.

Police say that the vehicle was owned by the driver’s father and has now been impounded for 14 days.

The driver, a Welland resident, has been charged with five offences, including stunt driving.

Police say that their licence has been suspended for 30 days.

“Members from #BurlingtonOPP at the Niagara location are regularly conducting proactive patrols to eliminate this type of life-threatening behaviour,” police said in a message posted on social media.
