A Toronto driver is facing multiple charges after allegedly driving in the opposite lanes on Highway 11 in Muskoka early Sunday morning.

According to Bracebridge OPP, officers responded to multiple calls at around 2:30 a.m. for a pickup truck that was travelling north in the southbound lanes of the highway in Bracebridge.

Police say the vehicle travelled ‘some’ distance before turning around and travelling south.

Officers eventually pulled the vehicle over and arrested the 47-year-old Etobicoke driver.

He was charged with the following five counts:

  • Impaired driving
  • Driving with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding 80 milligrams per 100 millilitres
  • Dangerous operation
  • Driving with cannabis readily available
  • Driving in contravention of conditions

The accused is scheduled for a May court date in Bracebridge to answer to the charges.

“If you suspect someone is driving a vehicle of any kind while impaired, please call 9-1-1,” said Const. Samantha Bigley from Bracebridge OPP in a news release. “Police will make every effort to locate the involved vehicle and conduct an investigation, many times, these investigations result in charges and removing impaired drivers from Muskoka roads.”
