A 24-year-old man is facing several charges after a carjacking in north Etobicoke on Monday morning.

The incident happened in the Rexdale neighbourhood, near Highway 27 and Belfield Road.

Toronto police said they were called to that area at 8:50 a.m. after receiving a call for a carjacking.

Investigators allege a man threatened to shoot a victim before demanding their hand over their keys.

They say he then drove the stolen vehicle east and west on Highway 401, before being observed by Durham Regional Police Service.

Police say he fled from Durham police when they tried to pull over the vehicle.

The accused, they added, was later involved in a vehicle collision on Highway 401 westbound. He was taken into custody by officers shortly after the collision.

Ralph Angy Duliepre, 24, of no fixed address, has been charged with robbery, possess property obtained by crime over $5,000, flight while pursued by peace officer, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, fail to comply with release order, and fail to comply with probation order. The charges have not been tested in court.

He is scheduled to appear in bail court on Tuesday morning.

This investigation is ongoing and anyone with further information is asked to contact Toronto police at 416-808-7350 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
