Editor’s Note – April 7, 2026: Toronto police say the incident was investigated, and they determined that there was no criminality.

Police are searching for a man who allegedly attempted to walk away with a child at a park in Scarborough this week.

The incident happened on Monday at Rosebank Park, just north of the Scarborough Town Centre, near Progress Avenue and Sheppard Avenue East.

Toronto police say they were called to that area at 5:20 p.m. for reports of a “suspicious” incident.

Investigators allege a male approached a child who was playing at the park and engaged them in a conversation.

He then “took the child by the hand and attempted to walk away” before leaving the park alone on foot, police said.

The male is described as having brown skin and being in his 20s, standing five-foot-five to five-foot-seven with a thin build, clean-shaven, and short black hair.

Police say he was last seen wearing a black sweater with a yellow smiley face on the front and dark pants.

This investigation is ongoing and anyone with further information is asked to contact Toronto police at 416-808-7474 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
