Michael Ford, nephew of Ontario Premier Doug Ford, has issued a statement after announcing he will not seek candidacy in the 2026 municipal election.

Michael Ford, the nephew of Ontario Premier Doug Ford and a former MPP, says he will not be running for mayor of Toronto after previously considering it.

In a statement provided to CP24, Ford, who is also a former Etobicoke councillor and is also the nephew of former Toronto mayor Rob Ford, said he had been considering tossing his hat in the ring but has decided against it.

“After some very long and thoughtful consideration with my close family I have decided not to seek my candidacy for Mayor of Toronto in the 2026 municipal election.”

Ford went on to say that he loves the city and has “always had a passion for public service.”

“I will remain very active in the city that I love and lend my support in whichever way makes Toronto a more safe, affordable and world class city,” he said.
