Firefighters battle two-alarm blaze at waste removal facility in Etobicoke

CP24’s Courtney Heels is on the scene of a three-alarm fire at a waste disposal plant in Etobicoke, where no injuries have been reported.

Officials will investigate the cause of a two-alarm fire at a waste removal facility in Etobicoke on Wednesday.

The fire broke out at a facility on Shorncliffe Road, near North Queen Street and Kipling Avenue, at around 5 a.m. on Wednesday.

Toronto Fire told CP24 that garbage caught fire on the lot and multiple aerial trucks arrived on scene to pour water on the flames.

No injuries were reported and the fire was contained to the facility.

Toronto Fire said there were no evacuation orders in place and there is no risk to public safety.

Division Commander Robert Hewson said no workers were on site when crews arrived.

“We’ve had our hazard materials teams do monitoring on the air and also water runoff and everything is looking good on that end as well,” he told reporters at the scene on Wednesday.

At the height of the fire, 30 apparatuses were on scene and the call was elevated to a three-alarm fire.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
