A Trent Lakes man who was prohibited from possessing firearms has been arrested in connection with the seizure of 53 rifles and a quantity of cocaine.

Members of the Ontario Provincial Police Peterborough/Northumberland detachment attended an address on Bessie Avenue in Trent Lakes on April 8 for the purposes of executing a search warrant.

Police say that officers made contact with the suspect, who was immediately placed under arrest and found to be in possession of a quantity of cocaine.

Officers then entered the building and located a firearm that had been stored in a “careless manner.” Police say that a further search of the property led to the seizure of 52 other long rifles, a quantity of ammunition and more than $5,000 in Canadian currency.

Joshua Fawcett, 39, was charged with six offences, including three counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order.
