Good news for TTC riders, as a planned subway closure on Line 2 has been cancelled. For GO Transit users, though, they’ll face disruptions this weekend due to construction work.

The closures come as the city braces for a busy weekend of major sporting events.

GO train service on two major lines will be suspended starting Saturday, April 11 through the end of service on Sunday, April 12, according to Metrolinx.

On the Lakeshore East line, rail service will be replaced by GO buses running between Durham College Oshawa and Pickering GO stations, with express service to Union Station Bus Terminal.

Officials note there will be no GO train service at Rouge Hill, Guildwood, Eglinton, Scarborough and Danforth stations. Riders travelling to and from those stations are encouraged to use the TTC.

In addition, bus departure times may differ from regular train schedules, and some connections, including GO bus route 88, may be affected. Late-night service adjustments are also expected Friday.

On Monday, April 13, some Lakeshore East trains will operate at reduced speeds following construction work, with minor delays expected between Pickering and Durham College Oshawa stations.

Regular service is scheduled to resume Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Stouffville line service will also be suspended for the same weekend period.

GO buses will replace trains between Old Elm and Unionville GO stations, with express service to Union Station Bus Terminal.

There will be no service at Milliken, Agincourt and Kennedy GO stations, with riders advised to use the TTC as an alternative. Regular service on the Stouffville line will resume Monday.

TTC cancels weekend closure

A planned closure of Line 2 between Keele and St. George stations on Saturday and Sunday has been cancelled.

That portion of Line 2 was scheduled to be shut down due to planned signal work.

Busy weekend ahead

The transit disruptions coincide with a packed weekend in Toronto.

The Blue Jays are scheduled to host the Minnesota Twins for afternoon games on both Saturday and Sunday, while the Maple Leafs will face the Florida Panthers on Saturday night.

The Toronto Raptors will also wrap up their regular season with a home game against the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday night.
