Environment Canada said Toronto could see flooding on Tuesday and Wednesday due to heavy rain in the region.
According to the national weather agency, Toronto could see as much as 20 millimetres of rain on Tuesday, with most of the precipitation falling in the morning.
Environment Canada previously issued a special weather statement but the advisory has now ended.
“Another round of rain, heavy at times is expected. The saturated ground has reduced ability to absorb further rainfall,” Environment Canada warned.
“After a break in the precipitation later today, another round of heavy rain may affect parts of the region Wednesday. Water will likely pool on roads and in low-lying areas.”
Rainfall warnings were also issued for some areas outside of the GTA, including Barrie, which could see as much as 35 millimetres on Tuesday.
The TRCA has issued a flood outlook for the GTA, which is in effect until Wednesday night.
Thunderstorms coupled with widespread rain could lead to flooding and overflowing rivers, the TRCA warned.
“All shorelines, rivers, and streams in TRCA jurisdiction should be considered dangerous as this rainfall may cause rapidly changing water levels and stronger and faster flows in TRCA rivers,” the TRCA said on Monday.
“TRCA watersheds have already received between 3-9 mm of rainfall over the past 48 hours and these wet ground conditions will reduce the capacity for further infiltration.”
Toronto is expected to see a high of 21 C today and 23 C on Wednesday. Thursday will see a high of 18 C, followed by a high of 17 C on Friday.
Saturday will continue to see milder than usual temperatures, which a high of 18 C, but the temperature drops to 12 C on Sunday.
Showers dominate the forecast for the rest of the week before sunshine and seasonable temperatures return on Monday.
