With the help of Jerry, a detector dog, the Canadian Border Services Agency seized more than five kilograms of undeclared sausage, salami and butter at Toronto Pearson Airport earlier this month.

The CBSA said a traveller from Germany was fined $650 as a result.

“The discovery was made by Jerry after he indicated on the traveller’s luggage while conducting proactive searches in the baggage hall,” the agency said in an email to CP24.

“CBSA Detector Dogs are trained to detect and sit beside the source of the odour to indicate possible prohibited items to their handler.”

The agency shared on Thursday a photo of Jerry next to the seized items.

The CBSA noted that Jerry, a Labrador, turned five in January and has been working with the agency since April 2023.

The agency has acknowledged the actions of its detector dogs at Pearson airport in the past few weeks.

Dharla sniffed out more than 22 kilograms of raw meat on March 8 while Moby intercepted more than 40 kilograms of undeclared beef and chicken.
