It is going to be a foggy end to the week and a rainy start to the weekend in Toronto.

Environment Canada has issued a fog advisory for the city and some parts of the Greater Toronto Area.

“Areas of dense fog have developed near Lake Ontario and will continue to spread inland this evening. The fog could potentially linger through the night and into Saturday morning,” the advisory read.

Environment Canada says areas under the advisory will experience near-zero visibility as a result.

“Travel will likely be hazardous in some locations. Visibility will likely be suddenly reduced at times,” the advisory reads.

A special weather statement is also in effect for Toronto and other parts of southern Ontario.

Environment Canada says a cold front will sweep through the region on Saturday, bringing rain and the risk of thunderstorms.

“Portions of the region have received significant rainfall amounts over the last few days. As a result, further rainfall could have significant impacts. Water will likely pool on roads and in low-lying areas,” the national weather agency said.

Rainfall amounts of 10 to 20 millimetres are possible Saturday morning through the afternoon.

The daytime high on Saturday will be 19 C.

It will be a mix of sun and cloud on Sunday with a 30 per cent chance of rain showers or flurries and a high of 6 C.
