A man has been arrested by Peel Regional Police in connection with a series of break-and-enters across the region in which $67,000 in cash and jewelry was stolen.
Members of Peel Police’s Bear Unit launched an investigation on March 26, dubbed “Project Nomad,” after a string of residential break-ins. Police said the suspect entered homes during evening hours and focused on stealing cash and jewelry.
In coordination with the Canada Border Services Agency, investigators identified and located the suspect inside a residence near Square One Shopping Centre in Mississauga. Officers arrested the man at the scene, police said in a news release.
Following the arrest, police seized approximately $31,000 in cash and about $36,000 worth of jewelry. Police say the stolen property was recovered and returned to its rightful owners.
Gerard Barrett, 39, of no fixed address, has been charged with four counts of break and enter, four counts of possession of property obtained by crime, disguise with intent, and possession of break-in instruments.
The investigation remains ongoing.
