Commuters are facing heavy delays on Highway 401 on Monday morning after multiple issues snarled traffic.
The eastbound express lanes were fully closed at Kipling Avenue due to a collision from 5:30 a.m. until just after 8 a.m.
Another collision on the westbound Hwy. 401, meanwhile, blocked multiple express lanes near Hwy. 400.
That issue has since cleared as well but CP24 Traffic Specialist Meital Sperling said that drivers will nonetheless face a heavy back up along the majority of the highway.
“The good news is the lanes are open, the bad news is it is still a crawl,” Sperling said.
Police said the injuries in both crashes are non-life-threatening.
Sperling said that it was “just a garbage start” to the drive for many GTA residents on Monday.
She said that as of 8 a.m., there is still a “heavy backup” on the westbound Hwy. 401 all the way from Markham Road to Highway 400.
“Spend a couple of bucks, take the 407, and you will save yourself a lot of time,” she said.
